Leave your desk. Not your work.

Reach your Macs from your phone or another computer. View or control the screen, open a terminal, browse files or run a command you saved before you left. Nothing runs unless you allow it.

Available for Mac and Windows. iPhone is in private testing.

A build runs on the desktop. An export renders on the studio Mac. A backup finishes on the laptop at home. Each one keeps going after you leave. Afar is for the moment you’re somewhere else, and need to see, or do, one thing.

How it works

Three steps. Then it gets out of the way.

  1. Step 1

    Connect a device

Open Afar on the computer you want to reach and choose to use it. On your phone, scan the code it shows, check that both show the same six digits, and choose Allow on the computer. Each device gets its own credential, and you can take it away later, one device at a time.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a computer

Your computers appear with their status in plain words, such as Reachable, Busy or Can’t reach right now, with when each last answered. Nothing is shown as working until it has actually answered.

  3. Step 3

    Open what you need

Open a real terminal signed in as you, view the screen or take control as a separate step, and run any command you saved in advance. Browsing and editing files is in testing.

Whatever you left running

An agent, a build, a render.

Start it in an Afar terminal on one of your computers, and you can open that same terminal from your phone to see where it’s got to.

  • Claude Code
  • Gemini CLI
  • GitHub Copilot
  • Ollama
  • Docker
  • Node.js
  • Python
  • Git
  • FFmpeg

Product names and logos belong to their owners. Afar isn’t affiliated with them and doesn’t include them.

Who it’s for

Different work. The same moment.

  • Developers

The build you started before lunch is still going. Open its terminal from your phone, read the last lines, and decide whether to wait.

  • IT professionals

See which machines are answering. Run only the actions you set up in advance, read the exact command before it runs, and keep a receipt of what happened.

  • Designers and editors

Start the export as a saved action before you leave. Its receipt tells you when it finished, without asking someone at the office to look.

  • Creators and social teams

Run the jobs you set up on the computer that holds each account, and see how each one ended, without signing in anywhere else.

  • Anyone with more than one computer

Know which of your machines is awake, which is busy and which has gone quiet, and when it last answered, without walking over to look.

Control

Nothing runs that you didn’t allow.

Reaching a computer from far away should feel safe, for you and for anyone sitting at it. Afar keeps six rules.

  • Connecting takes both hands.

A new device has to show the same six-digit code as your Mac, and someone has to choose Allow on the Mac itself. Codes and links never carry a password or token.

  • Every device can be cut off on its own.

Each connected device has its own credential, kept in the system’s secure storage. Remove one and the others keep working.

  • Watching isn’t touching.

Screen opens in viewing. Control is a separate choice. While you have it, Afar says so on screen, and you can give control back at any time.

  • Only the actions you set up.

Saved actions are fixed commands you review and approve. Afar shows the exact command before it runs, and never runs one again on its own unless you marked it safe to rerun.

  • Honest about what it knows.

Afar says Can’t reach right now rather than guessing, shows old information as old with its time, and never marks something done until it has been confirmed.

  • Your machines stay yours.

Afar uses each computer’s own permissions, keychain and certificate checks. It doesn’t bundle AI models or AI subscriptions, and never works around a permission you haven’t granted.

Questions

Common questions.

Something else? Write to hello@fromafar.app. A person reads every message.

Can I use Afar today?

Yes, on Mac and Windows. Each download above is signed and its checksum is listed beside it. The iPhone app is in private testing and will appear here once the App Store approves a public release.

What does Afar connect to?

Install Afar on each Mac you want to reach, then connect your phone to it. The Windows app connects to your Macs the same way; a Windows PC can’t be reached from your phone yet. The iPhone app is in private testing; Android and Linux are in development.

How much does Afar cost, and do I need a subscription to reach my own Mac?

No subscription is needed at home. Reaching one Mac from one device on the same Wi-Fi is free, and Afar never charges per core or per machine. Settings Sync (512 KiB across up to 32 devices) is in preview. Away from home, Afar BYO-Network is $49 a year for up to 3 Macs over your own Tailscale, VPN or HTTPS. Afar Solo is $15 a month or $119 a year with 20 GB a month of Afar relay and push notifications included, and Afar Pro Fleet is $29 a month or $249 a year for up to 8 Macs, 60 GB of relay and SMS or iMessage alerts when a prompt waits on you. Paid plans include commercial use and a 14-day free trial once checkout opens.

Is Afar an AI product?

No. Afar doesn’t include AI models or AI subscriptions. If you run coding agents or other long jobs on your computers, Afar lets you check on them like any other program.

Is this the app that used to be called Mission Control?

Yes. Afar was called Mission Control during early development.

Does this website track me?

No. fromafar.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. The privacy page explains what the hosting provider still sees.
